    Outstanding Outfit at Any Price

THE QUALITY OF THIS KIT IS BY NO MEANS "BEGINNER QUALITY". I am a flyfisherman of over 40 years, and like other reviewers, I have fished all makes and models of fly rods/reels. The short story is that every piece of this package was well thought out and of very high quality - and it's worth 2-3 times the price, easily. If you check the price on a similar outfit at Orvis (or similar), you will find a huge pricetag. Rod - Very impressive. The action is med slow by my estimate, which was nice because I was worried that it would be too "whippy" (ie too slow). A slower flex rod is much better to learn on, by the way. The rod is beautiful, too! Very nice mix of gloss and matt/semi-gloss finish. Guides are nice - one stripper guide with ceramic insert and the others are single-foot guides (as opposed to snake guides. Snake guides are seen on many rods these days, but there is no advantage to either in my experience.) Reel - Nice and smooth. Caught a nice enough perch on the first time out that it pulled the drag some - smooth and even. Line - Works great with the outfit. I had no problem with 20-50ft casts. Leader - Nice and limp. Terrific! Backing - Seems fine, but won't know for sure until that giant brown goes to town! Case - Nice and sturdy with nice embroidery. Good zipper. Fly Box - Unexpected professional quality. Good size to stow in your pocket. Waterproof seal. Floats. Flies - Biggest surprise. Excellent quality. Patterns are must-haves for every trout box. Good sizes too. Most flies that come with kits are very poor quality. Nipper - It works! Most of them with other kits don't even cut line! The nail knot tool part is very useful, as well as the point for cleaning out fly hook eyes. Zinger - This is the retractable pin-on thing that you can attach your nipper to. A nice and useful addition. Conclusion: This is an excellent outfit for anyone wanting a high quality pack rod kit - beginner to pro. Comparable to kits costing at least 2-3 times more, and quite possibly better than the high-priced competition. I don't like the phrase, "Great item for the price". That really has no meaning to me. It's good or it isn't. This kit is great at any price and because it is so ridiculously affordable, it just may very well be the best fly fishing value out there. The folks at Wild Water have really done their homework to create an outstanding fly fishing combo that will last you a lifetime. Lastly, I must confess - I bought this for a friend...He ain't getting this one! Get yourself one. You will be impressed. I promise. :-)

Great combo for many fishing situations

Bought this to teach more than 10 scouts how to fly fish. Ended up being a great package. Casts well, built solid, smooth slow/med action. Boys learned backcast/forward and roll cast quickly with this combo. Have made fly fisherman out of all that tried. Packs small so can even backpack it. Does not come with alignment paint marks but was easy to add. Highly recommend this combo. Spend the little extra and get the deluxe package. You have everything you need to start catching fish! excellent quality.
