Extended Information

Changing the Reel Retrieve Direction: All Wild Water starter package reels come preinstalled for left-handed retrieve. To change the reel retrieve from left hand to right hand, you need to first release the spool from the frame. Set the frame aside. On the inside of the spool, you will see a metal hexagonal clip that is held in place by small tabs and this clip is holding the bearing housing in place. Take a small screw driver and pry one of the ends of the clip out from under the tabs. Make sure you hold your finger over the clip so that it does not go flying out of the spool. Once you remove the clip, you need to flip the spool over and the bearing housing will come out. Flip the bearing house over and reinstall it. Replace the hexagonal clip to secure the bearing housing. At this point the reel retrieve direction in change, but you will need to strip off the the backing and line and reinstall it in the opposite direction--turn the drag knob all the way to the right to tighten it and you will only be able to freely turn the spool in one direction--that is the direction the line should go on the spool.

    looks good

I have not had a chance to try this yet because of the weather. But in opening the package and checking it out it looks to be a great item and the "extras" really help make this a good deal.

    Great rod, Great service

Posted by J. Brandon on 31st Oct 2014

I took my package out of the box and read the order forms, which included a sheet on how to keep the rod from breaking and how to return if it did break. I requested some specific patterns of flies (ones that did not come with the package) and was able to get what I wanted. I took it out to the lake for about 30 minutes to test it out on some blue guill and bass. The action in the rod is great. The line and leaders that came with were very good quality in my opinion. The flies also seem to be good quality also. I really like the case it comes with and it will be very easy to take my rod and reel backpacking. The flie box is nice too. I think for the price of this combo, there is no way you can go wrong in buying one. I will definitely buy more equipment from here.

    A newbie's first impression

Posted by Unknown on 8th Sep 2014

I'm brand new to fly fishing so I have zero hand's on experience prior to receiving this combo set. That said, I'm not sure I could ask for anything better for the price and ease of getting up and running. The main thing that I'm finding difficult is that the rod seems really flexible so learning to cast with any kind of precision in anything more than a slight breeze is seemingly tough. Sort of like learning to drive in a car with really loose steering. That said, I am able to shoot the line 35 or so yards or so without too much difficulty (if there's no wind). The reel is totally silent when retrieving line, unless there's drag. This is in contrast to my spinning reel that has quite loud "clacks" when reeling in the line under no drag. That's not a negative in my book but does take getting used to. So far so good with this setup. Considering I could have spent hundreds more just to get up and running, this seems like a no-brainer.
